Started out with breakfast at 8:00 and then it was time to play in the dirt. Digging a 4' x 6' bog.
The bog was dug and instructional information as to why and how things are done were explained to all attendees. It wasn't just "getter done" and thanks for your free labor.
Ok the hole is dug and shaped ready for the next step, underlayment and liner.
The bog's plumbing is ready to be set as soon as the underlayment and liner is
installed in the bog.
Since this is an existing pond, the water level was lowered and the side of the
pond is prepared for the waterfall. Putting in a partial shelve for the
rocks to sit on.
To put additional educational information into the day. Dave seamed a piece of liner. Step by step instructions and hands on "How To Seam A Liner". Questions were asked as to why we did not use primer and double seam tape. That goes back to "Predatory Pond Building". You don't need it if you use the right materials to begin with.
Step #1: Lay back the liner that is to be seamed together. Making
sure all dirt and debris is removed.
Stir the Quick Prime Adhesive from "Firestone". Available by the gallon as
well as by the quart.
Apply the adhesive to both pieces of the liner using the special applicator and
pads available.
Take care to fold the upper piece of liner over the lower piece making sure not
to have any wrinkles.
Once the "L" shape has been stuck together with the adhesive, SINGLE SIDED
tape is use to go over the seam.
Once the tape was put on, a SEAM ROLLER was used to remove any air from
underneath the tape. Using care to go from the center of the tape to the
edges.
A fold was discovered on one edge so a "T" was needed. Dave prepares the
liner just as he did on the original seam, then, cuts a piece of tape just
longer than the wrinkle and applies it to the fold. Again use the roller
to roll out any air that was trapped under the seam tape.
Installation of the underlayment. Notice how the bog underlayment is being
installed under the pond underlayment.
Now the liner of the pond goes over into the bog and then the bog liner over the
pond liner.
With the "Seamed Liner" laid in the bog, the plumbing is installed.
Now it is time to rock the bog. Small river rounds are used for the first
layer.
Egg rock is used for the next layer
Pea gravel is the final level. Pete and Mike take a break, while waiting
on the next wheel barrow full of pea gravel.
The setting of the waterfall rocks starts.
Foaming in of the waterfall rocks.
Nightfall is upon us, bog the bog is finished and ready for that magical moment
of it being brought to life.
The waterfall is running and dinner is about ready. Let's go eat
guys/gals.
